Open Days

Our popular annual free fun event for families

Buzzworks run a number of Open Days at our Discovery Centre during the summer months. These are free to attend however, advance booking is required to guarantee entry. Bookings can be made via the What’s On Page. Refreshments are always available to purchase as well as a range of home made cakes and biscuits to try, and of course our Buzzworks Honey.

Activities for all the family

There are always a range of free activities for children and of course our experienced beekeepers are on hand to talk about the bees.

They will answer any questions you have, point out the queen in our observation hive and share tips on how to make your garden more bee friendly.

Some of the activities you can find at our open days:

  • Treasure hunts around the bee garden

  • Test your knowledge with our fun quiz

  • Have a go at making your own candle

  • Try your hand at wax cup making & modelling

  • Spot the Queen Bee (pay to play)

  • Arts and crafts such as making paper bees, building a bee house or just colouring

  • We often run a video about bees & the environment during the afternoon

  • The observation hive is always available where you can study the bees up close

  • Plant stall selling bee friendly plants

  • Wildlife tombola (pay to play)

Directions to our Fun Day

Take the track at the side of the last house (number 178) on Old Hale Way, Hitchin, SG5 1XT. Follow the track past the allotments, and the Discovery Centre can be found at the end.
