BuzzWorks Association
discovering bees and beekeeping
BuzzWorks is a volunteer association that helps the community discover the world of bees. We also offer beekeeper training and beekeeper experience days.
We host visits to our BuzzWorks Discovery Centre where groups can learn about bees, enjoy the bee-friendly garden, classroom exhibition and watch the bees at work. A large screen TV is available to show fascinating video footage of the bees at work.
We also support local beekeepers, produce honey and provide training courses for new and improver beekeepers at our Honeyworks Beekeeping Centre.
You can find us on Hitchin Market on the last Saturday of every month, come along for a chat and buy some pure local honey.
Open Days
Our free family open days are held during the summer months at our BuzzWorks Bee Discovery Centre. Make a seed ball, craft with beeswax, have tea and cake or peak inside the observation hive.
Our open days are normally promoted via social media.
Beekeeping Days
Find out what it’s like to be a beekeeper in our memorable and exciting beginner sessions. Suit-up and explore a hive for the first time while learning about the fascinating world of bees. Choose from a shorter three hour fun Experience or a longer Taster Day for those considering keeping bees as a new hobby. These sessions are often bought as a gift for friends and family.
Our Market Stall
Come to the Hitchin Craft and Farmers Market on the last Saturday of every month and buy our honey and bee-related products from the BuzzWorks stall. You can chat to us about the educational opportunities on offer for children at our Discovery Centre. Get advice if you are considering beekeeping or find out about our mentoring for experienced beekeepers.
Schools and Education
Come to our purpose-built BuzzWorks Bee Discovery Centre for family, schools and group visits.
See inside our observation hive, learn from our beekeeping experts and try some honey tasting.
We believe it is important for everyone to understand the role of honey bees in our environment so they can help ensure their survival.
Honey and gifts
You can buy pure Hitchin honey and bee-related gifts and supplies from the BuzzWorks stall at Hitchin farmer’s market.
Train in beekeeping
Find out if you would enjoy keeping bees, or get expert advice if you already have a hive.
BuzzWorks offers a range of experiences from taster sessions for beginners to mentoring for the experienced.

Bees need volunteers
BuzzWorks relies on the generosity of everyone who gives a little of their time to support us. Every volunteer brings their own enthusiasm and range of skills and we appreciate them all.
If you are interested in honey bees, gardening for bees, helping visitors to learn about bees or are just willing to give some of your valuable time in a sociable, meaningful environment then please do join us. We’re sure we can find a role for you - and tea and biscuits are always on the agenda.
Become a member
Support us with £10 a year and get the opportunity to make decisions for BuzzWorks, voting for future projects and direction, as well as having fun at barbeques and being invited to BuzzWorks events.
Many of our volunteers also decide to become members but you can support us without having time to volunteer.
